Well it’s September already which means that because I’ve missed my monthly editorial that this is a double whammy, you could say that it’s a bi monthly editorial!

August was a busy month in Gay Wakefield with Wakefield Pride being held as always on the second Sunday of that month. The New Union Bar & Eatery on Southgate was packed to the rafters as the main pride stage this year featured the talents of Ryan Jagger, Soraya and Dame Shirley De Basse to name just a few. Club Odyssey gave our purses a break as they let us have pride drinks at their usual Monday Night Pink Pounder prices and The Rainbow gave us a family day in aid of various charities.

It wasn’t just a day thing thou because as night fell it was time for Leeds’ Mission 2’s ‘Homo’ Dj Mark Park to take the New Union over in style alongside ‘Heaven’ @ Havana’s very own pride after party. There was more LGB&T that you could shake a stick at!!

Post Pride wasn’t blue in Gay Wakefield either as more changes were to take place at The New Union with the launch of two regular nights. The first  new night see’s Gay Leeds’ very own ex viaduct showgirl and previous winner of drag idol Cherry Pops and Bear Aloud Mamma Nadine Coil alternating and bringing you ‘The Best Little Whorehouse in Wakefield’ every Frigay. Then every Saturgay at The NU you’ll get a ‘Pick N Mix’ of some of the best drag DJ’s and Cabaret artist’s taking it in turns to give you a night of your lives!!!!

A special shout out must go to New Union Bar Wench Jon Burrows who successfully organised the NU Wonderland (Alice in Wonderland) theme night at The New Union in late August, he did a fantastic job and it truly was wonderful.

Heaven @ Havana’s monthly gay night brought us not only a pride after party but also a Mr Gay UK 2012 event too. GW was on hand alongside Heaven event organiser Andy and Madame Connie Lingus to take a hands on approach to judging the heat. Congrats to those who took part and congratulations to the Wakefield winner Mr Mark Healey. I must also give a special mention to Miss Cilla Cone and Madame Nikoal for helping out with the nights proceedings.

So September is here and the nights are getting darker and colder but rest assured GW is only just warming up and the future looks ever brighter with some of the talent we are attracting to our scene and indeed our fairy city. Look out for our next big GW event soon, because it’s gonna be a cracker!!!!!!!!!

Speak soon guys and gals, muchos love
