On Saturday 29th September 2012, Mission 2 in Leeds played host to the Grand Final of the male beauty contest which has been running for almost 20 years.

The celebrity judging panel included this year’s Dancing on Ice winner, and Emmerdale star, Matthew Wolfenden, professional footballer Luke Steele formerly of Manchester United and now the Barnsley goal keeper. Bafta award winning TV Writer, Daran Little known for his work in Coronation Street, Eastenders and Made in Chelsea, completed the panel.

The evening was hosted by Hollyoaks Actor, Leon Lopez who introduced the 6 gorgeous finalists, who had been chosen by the public from over 220 applicants from throughout the UK.

The winner was Leroy Williamson aged 27, from Sheffield who is a Manager of a charity who support LGBT young people.

When asked how he felt after winning the title Leroy said “I feel really good. I’ve had loads of message of congratulations. First of all I was a bit shocked, I didn’t think I was going to win then I was over the moon and I came off stage and went up to everyone who had been cheering for me and they jumped all over me I was really really happy.”

1.) If you could give the world one piece of advice, what would it be?

One piece of advise is- Don’t pre-judge people… Especially for things that they haven’t chosen such as their sexuality or ethnicity. Every single person is different from another so ask yourself ‘what’s normal?’

2.) If you could have a room full of any one thing, what would it be?

I’d love a room full of sweets! #sweettoothe

3.) If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

If I could change one thing about myself it would probably have to be my hair, I wake up with a right Afro!!

4.) What would you attempt if you knew you could not fail?

If I could do anything and I knew I wouldn’t fail I’d love to help other people in the world have all the things we take for granted like running water. How do we live like we do when people are dying every day because they can’t even have a drink! WTF

5.) What is the best advice you’ve ever given and received?

The best advice iv ever received is ‘be yourself’ there’s only ever going to be one of you! You’re unique.

6.) What is your greatest regret?

My biggest regret is not being confident and comfortable to ‘come out’ until I was 23

7.) What is your biggest achievement?

My biggest achievement is actually not personal to me but In my job I have supported dozens of young LGBT people to become secure about their sexuality and who have gone from being homeless and suicidal to leading happy lives!

8.) If you could date anyone who would it be?

I have a boyfriend but iv always had the hots for Wentworth Miller but if i could go on a date with anyone it would have to be Alan Carr and we would have a blast!!

9.) What was the most nerve wracking moment of the Mr Gay UK contest for you?

The most nerve wracking part of the Mr Gay Uk contest was when the judges asked me questions and I felt all shy! No one would believe me if I ever said I’m shy though!
