In the 2012 Budget, the Chancellor announced that he will remove the zero rating of VAT on alterations to listed buildings. This will add up to 20% extra cost on every listed building that needs to carry out repairs, and so will threaten the future of our nation’s heritage. This tax hike will hit the Cathedral with a £200,000 bill on top of the costs of carrying out the renovation works. And as listed buildings are legally prohibited from carrying out works for which funding has not been secured, it will mean the vital renovation work has to stop.

The Cathedral has set up a petition calling on the government to reconsider this measure. I have signed and I am urging everyone who cares about our Cathedral and our city to do the same. Please sign, and let your friends, colleagues and contacts know about it so they can do the same. http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/32056

Thank you for taking the time to stand up for Wakefield Cathedral.
