Wakefield One provides one point of contact for a range of Council services which are brought together under one roof.

The building is being paid for by vacat

ing and selling other Council buildings and will reduce overall running costs by £1m a year. So you will be getting an improved service which costs less.

Services will include a customer access point, library, museum, business lounge and cafe.

Customer Access Point

The new Customer Access Point at Wakefield One conveniently locates a number of Council services in one area to provide a ‘one stop’ facility for you.

  • it is open Monday to Friday: 8.30am – 5pm

Services include:

  • Housing Benefits
  • Council Tax
  • Licensing
  • Planning
  • School Admissions, Transport and Meals
  • Blue Badge
  • Street Scene
  • Environmental Health

If the service you need isn’t located here, we also have free phones to other services for your use.

There is a range of modern facilities including self-service PC’s, private meeting rooms, translation services and sign language facilities.

New Library and Museum

Wakefield’s new library, local studies library and museum are all being provided in Wakefield One. The opening times for the library and museum are different from the Customer Access Point. They will be open:

  • Monday, Tuesday and Saturday : 9.30am – 6pm
  • Wednesday, Thursday and Friday : 9.30am – 8pm

These opening times follow consultation with local residents and will provide an extra 27 hours a week for the museum, 16 hours a week for local studies and reference library and two hours a week for the main lending library.

The museum explores the stories of Wakefield people from prehistory to the present day.

The library will offer an exciting mix of recreational and educational resources including children’s and young person’s area, a superb range of books and computer facilities.

Business Lounge

The Business Lounge offers a ‘one stop shop’ facility for queries and questions from businesses, inward investors and those considering starting up in business, around the range of support the Council and its partners can offer.
