Jaymi HensleyX Factor boyband Union J, which includes gay member Jaymi Hensley, has won a record deal with Sony despite not taking first place on this year’s show.

The UK group announced at their Cardiff gig on Saturday (15 December) that they intend to release an album next year, as they hope their contract will be sorted before Christmas, reported Digital Spy.

The boys were formed at bootcamp from trio Triple J and soloist George Shelley.

They are one of the few acts from this year’s British show to receive a contract and are expected to release a debut album in 2013 following the X Factor tour.

‘It’s amazing. It’s been a crazy week,’ Hensley told breakfast TV’s Day Break program today (17 December).

Hensley came out in November and said he is glad to have come out to the public before all the band’s success has settled in.

According to Unreality TV, he told fans: ‘I didn’t want to do it in five years’ time when I have made money and had a career.

‘I don’t think anyone should have to hide who they are.’

However, according to Telly Mix, it’s not yet clear if any of the trio have actually been picked up by Simon Cowel’s Syco brand or another label within the huge company.
