This year Wakefield celebrates its 7th annual Pride event. This year, despite considerable challenge, we are delighted that we have been able to create, what will be, a fantastic day.

As some of you may know within the community, Wakefield Pride is completely funded by charitable donations given from you the public, local government and public & private sector benefactors.  In fact, without you and them, we could not achieve what we do.
Whilst we know that we are in a time of austerity, we have built up (over 7 years), outstanding relationships that still endure and that have, again, allowed us to put together an event we can all be proud of. Thank you!

This year, we have decided to take a different approach to your entertainment for the day. We will showcase up and coming talent sourced both locally and from the wider music arena.

Our daytime performance will feature the best from Wakefield & West Yorkshires gay scene, including Drag Artistes, Showgirls, Vocalists and Female Impersonators and, to make sure you have the best experience possible, this year we have 2 outside bars so you can keep refreshed throughout the day!

As we turn to the evening, we have decided that we will showcase some of the outstanding talent from around the music scene that will deliver a festival atmosphere that will keep you partying into the night.

We are delighted that, Yorkshire Mesmac, Unite & Unison Trade Unions, West Yorkshire Police, The Ridings Shopping Centre, The New Union, Gaydio and Wakefield MDC are again giving us their full support.

Whilst we want everyone to enjoy themselves and celebrate the LGBT community and the diversity of Wakefield as a City, we ask that you remember that we will can only continue to provide this event as long as you want it and we can do it. So this year, we are asking for a voluntary donation on entry. This is exactly what we say it is, voluntary. Wakefield Pride always has, and always will be a free event.
All we ask is that you give as little or as much as you can so that we can start to build next years event and make it even more amazing. You can even do this after the event via our “Donate” button on our website!

We are also aware that few of you understand how to get involved, so lets explain a little of how this works! Wakefield Pride Committee is open to anyone who wants to contribute. If you would like to be a part of our event, all you need to do is email with your details and we’ll get the ball rolling! At the moment we have 14 committee members who all volunteer their time, but we are always looking for more and would be delighted to welcome anyone who wants to join us.

So, this years event is the 12th of August on Southgate Wakefield from 1pm until 11pm hosted once again by The Fabulous Miss Blanche, The Infamous Marky-Mark & The Delicious Sordid Secret, with the official after party inside the New Union from 11pm till late. Dont forget Wakefield’s other LGBT (and friendly) Venues; Club Odyssey, The Rainbow, Westgates, Moody’s and Havana will all be open for your pleasure.

If you would like to see a full list of who’s on this year and what we have in store visit or pick up your Pride Guide (produced by Mesmac) at all LGBT venues.

All that remains for us to say is have a fantastic time with us; bring your friends, neighbours, kids in fact anyone that you want to experience the true feeling of family that Wakefield LGBT community provides. Happy Pride!

Wakefield Pride Committee.
